Cover Story, Architectural Digest, 1971
Richard Mann’s work explores the mesmerizing interplay of color, form, and motion. His paintings reveal an almost kinetic sense of space, where fluid masses of pigment overlap to create an illusory depth that shifts with the viewer’s perspective. This quality of movement comes from Mann’s distinctive medium: a specially formulated plastic resin paint, drawn across plexiglass or masonite with a soft spatula to create swirling, graphic flow.
Between 1968 and 1994, Mann exhibited widely, with solo shows across the country and appearances at Art Basel in Switzerland, Wash Art D.C., and Art Expo New York. His works and site-specific installations now reside in private and public collections around the world. Mann has lived in Montecito, California, with his wife Pamela since 1984.
“My father was a paint manufacturer, so I had access to the company’s lab and scientists who worked there.”
